Enerfood – A healthy Green Drink Powder

What is a healthy green drink powder?

Healthy green drink powders are meal replacement supplements designed to provide the consumer with nutrition that has become absent from the modern western diet.  They have become popular items over the past couple of decades.  There are many different brands available to the consumer.  One of the objectives of my website will be to present many of these different powders and offer any anecdotal experience related to a specific item.

I have used many healthy green drink powders over the past decade.  The first was a product called Enerfood, manufactured by a company from Colorado.  ENERFOOD ORGANIC GREEN SUPERFOOD POWDER 14.1 oz costs approximately $37 dollars, which is a reasonable value.  The serving size is one teaspoon with fifty servings in the container.   Generally, one bottle should last about five weeks.

Ingredients

Spirulina, Chlorella,  Nutritional Yeast, Dulse, Kelp, Spinach, Alfalfa, Barley and Wheat Grass, Rosehips, Beet Root, Orange Peel, Ashwaghanda, White Asparagus Root, Dandelion, Lemon Peel, Papaya Leaf, Horsetail, Barley and Wheat Grass Juice powders

These are all fairly common ingredients for most healthy green drink powders.  Different products may contain more ingredients; however, there is typically a corresponding increase in price.

Please note Enerfood does not source its ingredients from China.

Benefits of Enerfood

Many benefits from Enerfood have been citing over the internet.  However, I’m going to mention some benefits that I noticed while using this healthy green powder.

– Alkalizing of the body’s PH

– Improved Energy and Stamina

– Improved Mental Clarity – reduction in “brain fog”

– Stronger Immune System – I stopped getting colds every few weeks.  In fact, colds soon became nonexistent.

– Improved skin tone

– Help with acid reflux – I had a terrible case of acid reflux

Let me add that during my youth and into my early thirties I had a terribly weak immune system.   I was getting colds constantly not to mention horrible earaches during my childhood.  People at work often commented about me “sick all the time”.  These colds disappeared after I changed my diet.  For the first months of my transformation, I was mainly relying on Enerfood for my nutrition.  My health and appearance had improved dramatically.  Instead of people telling me I appeared tired and miserable, I was getting compliments on losing weight and appearing healthy and younger.

My Experience

I stated in my first blog post that I changed my diet during 2006.  My meals had consisted of fast food, potato chips, and soda.  I had never considered the ramifications of unhealthy eating or the benefits of a diet filled with nutrition.  I scoffed at the notion of worrying about my diet.   Despite avidly working out at a gym my weight had jumped to around 210.  I had been trying to convince myself the weight gain had been due to being muscular but a trip to the Jersey shore and gazing down at my hanging stomach brought me to recognize the reality of my situation.  After being thin my entire life I had become obese.

Something needed to be done.  So, I immediately changed my diet.  I eliminated junk food, unhealthy meals, and soda.  I had been drinking a soda every day since my earliest memories.  By simply only drinking water and eliminating certain junk from my diet my weight had dropped from 210 down to 192 in about three weeks’ time.

I was pleased with the results but in the meantime, I had been listening to podcasts regarding nutrition.  One of those podcasts mentioned a healthy green drink powder named Enerfood.  Immediately, I was intrigued by the idea of using a healthy green drink powder as a means of supplementing valuable nutrition missing from my diet.  One of the principals (Steve) was being interviewed and he appeared to be an earnest and passionate person.  So, I placed an order for their Enerfood/Coconut Powder combo on their website.

Initially, I mixed the Enerfood and the coconut powder in water as part of my morning routine.  Every day since the summer of 2006, consuming some concoction containing a healthy green drink powder has become my habit.  Today, I couldn’t imagine waking up and not having such a drink.  Over the years I’ve added different fruits and vegetables along with other foods of nutritional value.  And the journey all began on the day I placed an order with Enerfood.

How I use a healthy green drink powder

When I first began using Enerfood I simply mixed a teaspoon or two with water then stirred.  Typically, I’d include a teaspoon of their Coconut Powder.  Simply doing this provided great benefits; however, I began doing more research on nutrition and diet. I became more adventurous and bought a blender and began adding other items to my morning drink.  Every six months or so I would break a blender and buy a new one.  Finally, sometime in 2009, I bought a Vitamix for around $500.  It may have seemed like a crazy expenditure but ten years later the Vitamix has proven to be a great investment.

The Vitamix 5200 Blender, Professional-Grade, 64 oz. Container, Black can literally blend anything.  I’ve blended apples, beets, carrots, etc and the blade is sharp as ever.  (Warning – dishwashing the Vitamix is the one thing that could harm the blade).

I’ll include a few teaspoons of a healthy green drink powder with water as a base.  Then, I’ll include a couple of beets, carrots, apples, bananas, frozen berries, honey, spinach, kale, and other items depending on what interests me at the time.

After blending everything with the Vitamix, I’ll have enough liquid to last over a week.  Then, I’ll drink a glass or maybe two in the morning, serving as my breakfast.  This serves as a healthier repast then my former cookies and milk.

Homemade Healthy Green Drinks

A friend of mine shared with me the following healthy green drink recipe, which included Enerfood.

1/2 Enerfood Serving
1/2 Organic Lemon or Lime
1 Banana
1 Apple
1-2 cups of Silk Unsweet Coconut Milk1 serving of Sunwarrior chocolate protein (If replacing dinner or lunch)
1 serving of cheap Organic Bulk Rice Protein Powder(If replacing dinner or lunch)

Directions:

  1. Pour liquid coconut milk in the Vitamix
  2.  Then turn Vitamix on the lowest setting
  3. Take the lid off to add in dry protein powder and dry Enerfood (So the dry ingredients don’t stick to the sides of your blender 🙂
  4. Make sure you unpeel all bananas and store them in the freezer in a plastic bag (They can easily be pulled from one another).
  5. Stop blender put cored apple in the blender and put the lid on and blend.
  6. Then squeeze a half lemon and add the frozen banana last.
  7. It will come out delicious. You can replace the lemon with Raspberries, Blackberries, Cranberries, Strawberries, Mango, and Blueberries.

  1. Hey, I just wanted to thank you for this great post. I really have to agree with you on this one – Vitamix quality is unbeatable.

It might seem a bit expensive at first for regular Joe’s pocket, which includes most of us – but when there’s an option of either replacing broken low-grade quality blenders and hoping they last or investing your money into a quality choice – it’s a straight forward decision!

Thanks for the homemade healthy green drinks recipe, I’ll give it a try.

    Keep posting good stuff!

    Cheers,
    Dario
